Hi Third Grade Wolves! You are probably getting excited about fourth grade! By this point in elementary school, you are probably feeling pretty comfortable with how school operates. You know that you will still have a resource class every day, 30 minutes for lunch and recess, and lots of new friends in your class. This post is split up into two parts: questions and answers about fourth grade, and a self-reflection activity as we get ready to end the school year. Have a great day! Frequently Asked Questions Q: What classes will I take and what SOL tests do I have to take? A: You will have math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. In fourth grade, the social studies class is called Virginia Studies and you'll learn a lot about our state's history. In Virginia, fourth graders take three end-of-year tests (called Standards of Learning tests, or SOLs for short). You'll take reading, math and Virginia Studies SOL tests. You all are in a unique situation since you did not have to take a 3rd Grade SOL test. Don't worry! You will be well prepared, and your teachers will practice the testing procedure with you so that you feel comfortable the day you take the tests. Q: What will learn about in math class? A: Specific math concepts will depend on the math class you take. In general, you will review and build on concepts you have already learned in K-3. You will learn new concepts, too, like decimals, elapsed time, geometry, division, and more advanced multiplication. Q: Who will my teacher be? A: Everyone thinks I know the answer to this question ahead of time! The truth is our school is very large and growing all the time. One of the reasons the school waits until just about a week before the new school year to call you and tell you your teacher assignment is that things can change pretty quickly when new families enroll during the summer! That said, all of our fourth grade teachers are awesome and you're going to have a great year! Self-Reflection Activity Complete the worksheet below to reflect on your 3rd grade experience and get yourself thinking about next year. Click on the button below to download the worksheet.
