I will be visiting classrooms this week for our first official guidance lesson of the year!
Kindergarten and 1st Grade will be learning about the difference between BIG problems that always require an adult's help, and small problems that they can try to solve themselves first! We will be using a peer conflict-management curriculum called Kelso's Choices. Kelso is a frog who teaches young people how to solve their own problems! We will be learning about the choices of: Tell Them To Stop, Ignore It, and Go to Another Game over the next two weeks. 3rd Grade will be learning about Bullying Prevention. We will go over the definition of bullying. We will learn that bullying is always 1) aggressive, 2) repetitive, and 3) involves a power imbalance. We will learn what "power imbalance" means. Students will learn what they should do if they witness bullying, and students will also learn how to be an Upstander in any situation!
